I also participated in Taglit Birthright and realized that the trips really do not promote a Jewish identity that will last. Rather they create an emmotional high. Jewish identity can only be preserved by religious observance. There is no Judaism without kashrut or Shabbat and unless people realize that soon Jewish identity will continue to be lost.
