It is fascinating when life mirrors the portion of Torah chanted each week. This week`s portion or `parasha` is `Shlach`. It tells of the 12 princes of Israel who travel in Canaan and report to the Israelites in the desert about how terrible the land is and that certain death awaits them if they enter.
Mr. Bentziman has unintentionally (?) provided an opportunity for reflection on this story. Since we tend to value `rights` over truth, Mr. Bentziman is entitled to the right to free speech. But, in the same way as the princes of 3,500 years ago did, he has selected facts and has twisted them to serve his agenda (whatever that might be). I`d recommend that more people come to Israel to visit and to see the type of people who live here. We make mistakes. But Israelis are good, kind people. As long as Benziman is given a platform to spew poison, the world will continue to believe him. So what really causes Israel`s negative perception? The facts or the agenda? |
