As a non-self-hating Jew, I must say that this boycott has been amusing to watch.
The Vilna Gaon said that "When a Jew doesn`t light Shabbes candles, there`s a Goy to light havdallah for him." My understanding of this was that the function of Anti-semitism is to remind us of our differences. When Jews, in this case academics, think they can endear themselves to antiSemites by trying to hate their fellow Jews even more than the antisemites themselves, it is a punishment, measure for measure, that the antisemites hate and attack the antisemitic Jews. |
