I agree, teaching should go beyond simply transmitting data. A teacher must teach students about life skills and give them a range of experiences and views. Not only does coming out to ones students help increase their tolerance of gays but it also helps the students to become more trusting of the teacher. They will respect the fact that the teacher has disclosed this to them. An open atmosphere that could be created would be a great opportunity for a class to have discussions.
As for the argument that homosexual acts are immoral. They don`t hurt anybody and are simply private expressions of love between people.
