Pollard believed in The United States when he went to work for Naval intelligence, but something happened once he began digesting the classified reports he had access to. Pollard discovered that contrary to promises made by The United States to Israel, so thought Pollard, The US had witheld all kinds of vital information from Israel. Pollard inadvertantly passed on to Israel The Iran guns for hostages deal,corrupt political scum in Israel wanted a cut, e.g. Peres. So, Pollard made a huge error, assuming his Israeli handlers had better character than The US Navy.
If Pollard did not like his job, he should have resigned or transfered. The fact that Pollard was able to do what he did, in the quantity he did it, is a scandal for The Navy. Israel comes out smelling foul in how they handled things.
Nevertheless, I believe Pollard has served long enough. I do not believe he ever intended to harm the US, he wanted to be "the hero". It was a terrible error he is all too aware of. Enuf jail. |
