Title:Our physically handicapped

It has always struck me as bizarre that a country with so many maimed and injured by terrorism and war can be so insensitive to its physically handicapped. Portrayed as heroes on surviving their injuries they are then consigned to oblivion, as periodic wheelchair demonstrations against inaccessibility of public spaces and lack of funding remind us only far too rarely.

The winner`s advertising campaign was effective, searingly so, because of its graphic and stark simplicity. Unfortunately with its disappearance from the billboards the subject is back where it was, gathering dust once again. So why is public transport not adapted for easy wheelchair access? Since funds are so limited for the handicapped, why can wheelchair users not use the growing, brand-new train networks and stations? Why is there not a standard width of entry for shops and public conveniences?

It`s a question primarily of legislation, only then enforcement. What`s the problem?
