So, Yishai, what about all the people in Israel who are accepted as Jews, but who have never set foot in a synagogue, who eat pork, and go to nightclubs on Shabbat? Have these people accepted the law of G-d too or is there a special rule for them?
If Israel were to only consist of those who are Jewish according to the strict Orthodox tradition, our population would effectively disappear. Perhaps it`s time to start realising that Judaism is not only Orthodoxy, and that in the Diaspora - and beginning in Israel too - there are other, vibrant, equally Jewish streams. And all are valid and to be celebrated. |
