In 1956 Nasser closed the Suez Canal to Israeli flagged ships. The Treaty of Constantinople 1888 was on his side, since the party holding sovereignty over the Suez must allow "belligerent" ships thru, unless those ships are flagged by a nation "belligerent" to her. It was their damn canal, S, not Israel`s. 1967 "Egypt interdicted normal sea access to Israel" - Riiiiight. Care to tell me the names of all those Israeli ships that Egypt interdicted? Or just one?? ANNOUNCING that you are going to interdict is not the same as ACTUALLY interdicting shipping, as any student of the Cuba Missile Crisis will tell you. Or are you saying Kennedy went to war with the Soviets in 1963 when he announced that Russian-flagged ships would be stopped? I seem to have missed THAT war, S. |
