Neither Hezbollah nor Hamas could have undertaken the coordinated kidnappings last summer, which led to war, without Syria`s tacit approval. Both Meshal and Nasrallah, the two regional actors with the most to benefit from a continuation of war and the prevention of implementation of the Clinton plan for Palestinian independence, reside in Syria. Let`s get real- Syria is more afraid of peace than of war. If Syria were to magically wake up one day and promote a reasonable plan, peace would break out because Israel would not have the diplomatic wherewithal to resist it. Of course, a month later, Assad would be killed by his own officers. |
