| My father was born in Cairo and he left in 1961 with his family, eventually settling in Brooklyn along with many other Egyptian Jews. A group of them came together to reestablish their synagogue, with the same name, Ahaba Ve Ahba. To say that their memory has disappeared, just because the community does not invest a lot of effort in publishing their story for the rest for the world, is naive. As a community, they do not waste a lot of time complaining about how they were treated in Egypt. Instead, they celebrate their newfound prosperity here in America. If anything, the reason that the world reads so little about this community in history books is because their story is long from over. |
