Hi Kim,

I have been asking myself the same questions over and over again, the last 10 years that I am a citizen of Israel. I never got an answer.

I am prejudiced too, I admit it right away. I see no difference between Palestinians and most Israeli Arabs. The lynching is an example of it. I too want to be convinced of the opposite, not only in words but also in deeds.

ALl Israelis have equal rights. The execution of these rights however differs too much. If an Arab wants a permission to build a house, in many cases his application for a permit disappears on the bottom of the drawer and he needs to wait for ages. Sometimes Israeli Jews oppose to this publicly but that is then a temporary act because it drifts away with the wind.

Israel needs to acknowledge the problems there is with its Arab community and do something about it. The conflict with the Palestinians has absorbed too much time and energy to keep this on the agenda. That is a pity, but it needs to be addressed. But the Arabs need to make a stand on what they are willing to do for integration. Lynching a killer is not the right way. Then it is understandable people start assuming they are no different than Palestinian gangs.

There are many problems in Israel. The Palestinians, the Arab Israelis and do not forget indeed the Haredim. Until today Israel has never had the nerve to change their position as well, for Israel apparently is not ready yet for a debate on the issue of separation between state and religion.

I think I am going to buckle in again.
