| I`ve been turning blue saying what you said. There have been some impressive movements within iran, but the west`s hardline stance only emboldens the mullahs. Obviously, you have been lucky enough not to live in the shadow of a dictatorship (since you seem clueless as to what happens when you dissent). I`ll put it another way, how many people are dissatisfied in the US and UK with what`s going on in Iraq? The majority of the brits did not want to go to war, yet in these 2 full blown democracies, people feel discontent and their wishes go unanswered. You can only imagine what happens when you disagree with a brutal govt in Iran. It`s not easy. But we can definitely help the undercurrent movements by supporting the people, helping them build capacities and organizations that can gain enough momentum to topple the regime. The situation is quite ripe for that. And you are right, sanctions will only hurt our cause and help the regime. |
