The Israelites shook off their bonds of slavery thousands of years ago. Just 59 years ago they got their Jewish Homeland, helped by the UK Balfour Declaration of 1917. At this time in the Jewish Calendar it behoves on us all to reflect on the extent to which the enslaved of Biblical times have now swapped roles with Herod, in that the neighbouring `tribe` of Philistines are now themseleves enslaved to, and by, Israel.
Why cannot we practice what we preach and produce understanding, tolerance and forgiveness? Implacable enemy politicians in Northern Ireland have forgiven, reconciled and shaken hands for the sake of peace. Why cannot Israelis and Jews do the same with their dispossessed and oppressed neighbours, who beg to live a life of peace and calm?
Please `google` the Balfour declaration and read its one simple condition. Why did Israel not honour this condition? |
