| The good Prof. is making the civic claim on the majotity of the voters ( we know that they are not only Jewish, but also Druzes, Cherkessis and I am afraid because they have a problem in coming out in drove and declare it: the Christian Arab); all of these voices have already made it clear that Israel is and should be preserving the Jewish charater. Prof. Ghanem might representation a group of decent and concern Israeli citizens of Muslim religion, but his concern are badly misplaced. Even when he calls for a democratic involvement of all the population, not matter their religious background, the make up of the Knesset is a real testimony to the majority`s wishes. Pretty soon, in France, the Muslim population will increase to the same level as the Israeli Muslim: then, should the Rector of Paris Mosque ask the French constitution to change its Christian character to give freedom of expression to another religion!?. When Europe will include Turkey, will the European majority have to call their constitution as multi-religious, Multi whatever? Sure, let the Muslim countries have a modicum of tolerance by agreeing to a minority of Hindus, Christians and maybe Jews in their countries, with as much as freedom of expression as the Minorities do have, and they have all the rights to have, in Israel. Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libbya, Iraq, Syria, all have seen their multi-millenia Jewish population almost ceansed because of the environment in where they saw their lives threatened, by the populace and by the officialdom, by having no defense in their Basic Laws. Sure, Israel would like to be pointed out as a "Special Country", however no country would let itself commit soverein suicide... |
