Title:The "Nation" premise
Name:FOX

Meron deals with this subject based on a faulty premise. He is of the belief that Palestine is a nation, crossing borders.

I begin my understanding from the perspective that "Hamoulot" Clans are the foundation, rather than a historical nationhood.

Before 1948, the Arabs of the area, whether Christian, Moslem or Druze etc. identified with their extended families, and had never even called themselves Palestinians.

Meron would like, like many leftists to continue to deprive the Israeli-Arabs of an Israeli identity.

His premise is akin to Canada attempting to make treaties with the Mayans of Central America under the guise of them being "Native Peoples" or "Indians" as well.

Israel has an Arab minority, which must be given the opportunity to participate fully in Israeli life. I imagine the day when Arabs will be serving in the army, many already do.
Imagine the day that Meron would give up his place at Haaretz for an Arab-Israeli journalist, hallelujah!
