| Churchill was a conventional British imperialist and colonialist whose racism was also conventional, but of the aristocratic sort. As a literary man, he didn`t need to stoop to vulgarity. Still, he was accused in open Parliament of advocating the position: "The wogs begin at Calais." You might say that he was a sort of equal-opportunity racist: the British (i.e., English) were supreme, the rest of the world -- including British Jews, who were not quite fully British -- was somehow inferior. |
