The Palestine sunbird would make a fine choice, and its English name should not disqualify it. After all, the English names of the national birds of both Thailand (Siamese fireback pheasant) and Sri Lanka (Ceylon junglefowl) include obsolete terms for those countries. Note also that the national bird of Jordan mentions a neighboring territory in its English name -- the Sinai rosefinch. If this caused a diplomatic crisis with Egypt, I`m unaware of it.
But, politics being politics, the Palestine sunbird is apparently out. My second choice would be the turtle dove. |
