One should review facts and dates when citing historical examples. The paragraph on the American Civil War contained a number of errors on many levels:

In the Gettysburg Address (November 19, 1863), Lincoln never mentioned slavery or abolition. He did repeat the “all men are created equal” from Jefferson. But that could be understood in many ways including the 3/5 compromise for counting slave, that had been established in the Constitution.

The Emancipation Proclamation (January 1, 1863) granted freedom only to slaves in the Confederate States. Practically that meant those occupied territories of the South. The boarder states which were slave states but part of the Union were not covered.

The war ended on April 9, 1865 with Lee’s surrender although fighting went on until mid-June 1865.

All slaves were freed only with the adoption of the 13th Amendment that became effective on December 18, 1865. At that time some 40,000 people in Kentucky were still slaves.
