Eisenhower`s family became Jehovah`s Witnesses when he was a boy; his mother was a Jehovah`s Witness until the day she died. Ike never officially left the Watchtower and was never officially excommunicated (thought it might`ve been automatic, when he joined the Army). He joined a Presbyterian Church shortly after his election.
Americans elected four (admitted) Unitarians president in the 19th century. Since they do not believe in the divinity of Jesus, they are NOT Christian (Catholics, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Methodists, Baptists, Anglicans Episcopalians, Seventh Day Adventists and, yes, Mormons do). I`ll leave the Deists out of this, since they had eclectic beliefs.
Mormons are MUCH more respected in the US than the Jehovah`s Witnesses. If they elected Ike, they shouldn`t have a problem with Mitt. |
