The Caananites were removed by YHWH bcoz they exhibited many of the tendencies we note in Muslims today: they worshipped the `gods` of the heavenly bodies (stars, sun, moon plus fertility goddess) AND they sacrificed their children unto Molech (made their children pass through the fire).
Islam worships the moon god of Mecca- who had 3 daughters Al-lat, Manat and Uzza (who are linked to fortune and fertility) PLUS they make their children pass through the fire of bombs to become martyrs for the moon god.
