There are more than a few facts missing here. The article almost sounds as if the outcry against the work is justified or even normal. For those who don`t live in Jerusalem - here is what you are not being told: 1. The ramp in question leads to the mount - but is not part of it or of the Western Wall. It is a public access ramp leading to the entrance of the compound. 2. The retaining wall to the ramp collapsed a couple years ago - endangering nearby worshippers. 3. A temporary ramp was put in place until a more permanent one could be built. No one objected to the temporary ramp - there was nothing to object to.
Any decent nation with a conscience would repair broken public access areas to prevent injury or worse.
Any outcry against this work is just plain ridiculous. |
