| begin to question the "right of Israel to exist". It is exactly because of "good-doers" like Carter. Today`s criticism of Israel coming from the left ("in the name of the other", as Finkielkraut calls it) are the exact substitute for the anti-Semitic aspersions on Jews before WWII. Ignoring those aspersions was exactly what Jews tried to do in Europe for almost 2000 years, hoping that they will just disappear. They didn`t: they just became more prevalent. In France, for example, 30 years ago Jews thought that the horrors could never return. Today many of them are afraid to wear Magen David in public, fear of "the other" that Carter and his ilk run to defend. You think just sitting quiet will make this new wave of anti-Semitism go away? I doubt it. And anti-Semitism it is since Carter deliberately puts the whole blame on the Jews. |
