| I disagree with the idea of any European country establishing a fund to maintain such sites. I would agree if these countries still maintained the governments and regimes that inflicted the initial damage; but we can see that, especially with Germany, nothing close to the original government exists. In fact, with the increasing liberalism of such countries, it would make little sense. Instead, I would propose that any group, nation, or organization that would like to preserve such historic sites to raise the funds themselves. If the message is to never forget the excesses of the past, then surely these same people who believe such a noble principle should be willing to keep it alive instead of relying on others to do it for them. |
