Please tell Secretary Rice that there is already a Palestinian Arab State on Four-fifths of Palestine. Today it is called Jordan. See Julius Stone`s book, Israel and Palestine, pp 22-25.
As somebody who was in the intelligence of the central command, before, during, and after the six days war, I can only report the enormous relief from security point of view obtained by returning to Judea, Samaria and Gaza in 1967. Israel`s security before 1967 was a nightmare. These Auschwitz Borders, to use the words of the politician from the left Abba Ebban, are now even more of a death trap as compared to to 1948- 1967, because Israel faces a cruel Palestinian entity instead of the relatively disciplined Jordanian Legion, and because of the new type of weapons involved. That this is so can be concluded even by those who were not involved in the pre-1967 nightmare. Just observe what happens when Israel vacates a territory. It becomes a base for attack on what remains of Israel. Who ever works for retreating from the territories works for the interests of the other side. We all, secular and religious Jews, should be grateful to the settlers, who are the true pioneers of today and should be encouraged; such an encouragement is also the only way to comply with international law (Julius Stone`s book). A SECOND Palestinian Arab state is a violation of international law . Note also that the Arabs of Palestine are not interested in a second Arab state in Palestine, but only as a tool to destroy the Jewish state of Israel. See for example:
"The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct `Palestinian people` to oppose Zionism. "For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa. While as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan." (PLO executive committee member Zahir Muhsein, March 31, 1977, interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw.) |
