Israel`s security concerns are not being served in any way, shape, or form by the detention of Fawaz Damra. Israel has the wrong--and wronged--man.
Damra is a man of peace. Trust me, I have come to know Fawaz Damra personally while working with him on interfaith issues for several years. I, along with many others, can attest that Fawaz is a good and honorable man of God who embraces people of all faiths: Christians, Jews, and Muslims alike.
Over the years, I have heard him preach to crowds of all persuasions--Muslims included--that the God of Abraham demands of all of his followers to act in love. He has repeatedly and emphatically taught that the perpetration of violence against others is contrary to the will of God.
No, the Americans, suffering from post-9/11 hysteria and paranoia, got the wrong guy. Very disturbingly, my inept and bungling government, unable to find or prosecute any true terrorists, has now, in utter desperation to save face, begun to witch hunt. |
