I just arrived on the winter Nefesh B`Nefesh flight. I never in my wildest dreams of moving here expected things to be easy. I anticipated lines, nasty people, and hardships. I was told by Israelis I was a fool. I was told by Americans I was an idiot. I was told this would be the worst possible thing I could ever do. Perhaps time will prove these people right.
Right now however, my experience has overall been very positive. I speak some Hebrew and I am certain that helps. But I can tell you EVERY person I encountered in government, banks, and kupat cholim has bent over backwards to make this a good experience. Perhaps I`ve just been lucky. Perhaps Daniel Ayalon`s ideas are being put into practice. Who knows maybe I went everywhere right after they received `sensitivity training.` I even had a wonderful woman at the Maccabi Kupat Cholim voluntarily open up to sign me up when I arrived a bit too late last Thursday. She said,`it`s the least I can do for an Oleh Chadash!` |
