Agree generally, but for one thing:
"the iraqi war was well intentioned but the result has been abysmal"
The war was far from well-intentioned. Is there as single person in the universe who doubts this invasion was to secure oil, rearrange the middle east according to US and Israel preferences? WMD`s were a lie that the adminisrtration knew and most of us suspected strongly. Bringing "democracy" to Iraq was just lip service. A few naive ideologues may have convinced themselves that this was a good purpose (the NYT columnist Friedman among them, at first). But this was not exactly the goal of the original war mongers - Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Faith, Pearl etc. The fact that this goal is moving further away daily is not an unintended conseqiuence but a fully predicted one. Right now, Saddam crime looks on par with the Bush atrocities, if one compares total suffering and numbers of dead, except US is well on the way to surpass Saddam. Power mad peas in a pod, if you ask me. |
