IN 2000, ISraeli PM Barak made Palestinian Chairman Yasir Arafat 2 offers, the second of a Palestinian state in all Gaza, 955 of the West Bank (in return for Israeli territory), sovereignty over East Jerusalem, and partial control of the Temple Mount. Arafat turned him down, as he was afraid to relinquish the so-called "right of return". In other words, Barak put Arafat to the test and found him wanting. So what do we have to lose? Let`s make Assad a tempting offer, such as all the Golan, in return for full diplomatic relations, cessation of all support for Hezbollah and Iran, expelling Khaled Mashaal and other Palestinian terrorists and stopping meddling in Lebanon. Wil he accept the offer, however tempting, in return for the above? I seriously doubt it. |
