It`s getting tiresome reading about whether Assad is serious or not about negotiating with us. The simple fact is that we won`t know until we sit down with the Syrians. And while it is unclear whether Assad is able and or willing to pay the price of peace, the very same is as true for us. If we are really unwilling to give up the Golan in return for a sold peace agreement the perhaps we should just say so...and get ready for the justifiable consequences.
