The following words of Senator Joseph Biden are commendable but hypocritical:
"In the Holocaust`s aftermath, there have been far too many demonstrations of survivors and heirs of Holocaust victims who have been refused their moral and legal right to information, restitution of assets, or compensation for slave labor."
The hypocrisy lies in the genocide of the North American Indians by Americans. It also lies in the brutal enslavement of blacks for nearly three hundred years. Slavery was rampant across the US right up until the Civil War ? there were slavery pens in Washington DC until as late as 1846. We witnessed only recently the complete lack of US public concern for the devastation wrecked by Hurricane Katrina on predominantly African Americans in New Orleans.
I hope Joseph Biden will at long last right the sins committed closer to home. I look forward to the ?restitution of assets? for indigenous Americans, and ?compensation? to African Americans for the ?slave labor? of their ancestors toiling for those who called themselves ?freedom-loving? people. |
