if anything, intermarried couples, of any origins, seem to me like a message of hope that someday human beings might finally step out of their little boxes/cages/chains and embrace the world, its similarities and differences, it`s beauty and its challenges. i can`t think of anything that has contributed to my `education` more than interacting with people from other cultural backgrounds than mine - meeting and engaging with, learning to understand and to love, not just to be polite to, people who carry a different heritage from mine. racism has caused enough pain and suffering to enough people in this world, and if as jews you/we consider your/ourselves as victims of that history, then that is all the more reason to try and escape the cycle, rather than become the perpetrators.
thanks to every mixed-race baby whose curious playful face has made me smile and brought light into a boring metro journey or joy into a depressing grey streetscene! |
