| Syria is a sovereign, independent country, and there is absolutely no excuse for it to support terrorism for any reason whatsoever. Regarding pre-independence Israel: following the assassination of Lord Moyne in Cairo in 1944 by two members of Lehi, who were subsequently executed, the Yishuv demanded that Lehi and Irgun disband. Irgun refused, and the Hagannah started what is refered to as the "Hunting Season," arresting members of the Irgun and turning them over to British military. As of March 1945, 830 suspects were handed over by the Yishuv, of whom 241 were held under Emergency Regulations. Although from October 1945 to July 1946 Irgun was allied with the Hagannah, this alliance came to an end in June 1946, after the south wing of the King David Hotel, headquarters of the British Governance was bombed by Irgun. Following the shelling and destruction of the Altalena, June 1948, 200 members of the Irgun were arrested on orders of Ben Gurion, and the Irgun was integrated into the IDF |
