| Sam`s suggestion of total cessation of violence by all groups during peace talks with Syria and collaboration with regards to providing Israel with the type of security it requires, really makes sense. PM Olmert and FM Tzipi Livni`s father, were themselves members of challenging organizations, uncompromising, etc. to the founding Prime Minister of Israel David Ben Gurion. Tosefta explained this very well (23/12/06, Ze`ev Schiff`s article"Putting Assad to the test", Tosefta #86) They did not "dismantle and collect their arms before the U.N. declaration" of the Partition. As well, they "were not dismantled before the State was declared". The Altalena affair of sinking the Irgun`s ship by the IDF followed. The Jewish militias were dismantled much later and the IDF became apolitical. Maybe the Palestinian/Syrian situations are similar to our divisive beginnings of the Jewish State. This really has to be kept in mind, but maybe Israel needs greater reassurances with Syria`s goals in the ME |
