| Mr. Burston, go do your homework. The Sadducees were not an intolerant fanatical sect. Quite the contrary, they were by & large ready to assimilate into Hellenistic society while holding to a conservative outlook in matters of religion - meaning, they were the party of the Priests & Temple Service & did not like foreign ideas such as belief in an afterlife. They were against over-interpretation of the Torah but they had little quarrel with a Hellenistic life-style. You may have confused them with the zealots who were quite xenophobic. |
