| After the first (suffragettes) and second (economic equality, sexual self-determination) feminist movements, a third one is blazing around the world to liberate women in the non-Western world, who suffer from (the non-islamic tradition of) genital mutilation, honour killing, forced marriage, acid attacks, etc. People like Algerian-French Fadela Amara (`Neither whores nor slaves` movement), French-Iranian Chahdort Djavann (`Down with the veil!`) and Somali-Dutch Ayaan Hirsi Ali (`Submission`) are only a few names of the brave women who oppose male chauvinist traditions in their respective cultures. Perhaps Israeli and Palestinian women can work together against gender discrimination in both Israel and the Palestinian territories. |
