When leading Polish Rabbis spoke to the Cardinal Primate in Warsaw, begging him to speak out against Poles assistng the Nazis, he replied that death was their destiny for rejecting his religion of Love. Pius XII spent years in Germany and loved everything German. Within Germany itself one Catholic bishop condemned Hitler`s euthanasis of mentally ill Germans -- and the program stopped, at least in public. Hitler wanted the church on his side.What may reflect better on Pius XII is that, although Musolini was on Hitler`s side, no Italian soldier took part in any anti-Jewish actions. |
