| With all due respect to the Klatchkin family, the commandment to "be fruitful and multiply" was addressed to the entire human race, not any one person. 1, 2, or 3 children are a blessing. 18 is just a strain on our already-fragile natural resources. Populations around the world simply can`t keep developing at a rate like this - a fact China figured out years ago. And by "the community" taking care of these 18 children, you do mean the Israeli government, right? Welfare programs are a moral necessity, but 18 kids on state assistance is abuse of the system, plain and simple. Creating a family is a great mitzvah, but only when it`s done responsibly. I hope my cousins in the Haredi community realize that tikkun olam requires much more than adding new people to it. |
