It is unlikely that a reporter such as Tamar Rotem did not learn the cause of death of Ms. Klachkin. If she died of a disease that was unrelated to her high fertility, such as cancer, that should have been mentioned. The implication throughout the article is that having multiple pregnancies is dangerous to women. While having many children must be a great deal of work, there seems to be a community network that is highly supportive of large families. We on the outside, specifically journalists, should not rush to judge the charedi way of life on this point. There are plenty of cases of lonely alienated secular youth, in families of 1 or 2 children, ignored by parents, isolated in society. Plenty of yuppie north Tel Aviv mothers would look equally exhausted from dealing with their 1 or 2 teenagers. The author was wrong to specifically omit the cause of death, thereby leaving the unspoken impression that her fertility killed her.
