Among other things, it will provide Israel with a strategic deapth that it lacks without the disputed territories. Instead of this necessary deapth being located on its eastern and southern borders, it will be located, conceptually, west of Israel, hence providing Israel with political, economic and to some extent military backing.
The Arabs of Eretz Israel/Palestine should also be pleased with such an arrangement in that Israel, in time, will be able to move its armed forces out of the disputed territories, enabling the Arabs of this Land to fully apply the concept of national-self determination.
The question, however, remains: Do the Arabs of Eretz Israel/Palestine either want or can govern themselves in an independent nation-state. So far, after decades of opportunities, going back to 1937, they have exhibited neither the will nor the ability to do so. |
