They are supposed to be the descendants of the tribe of Dan. Even if they have, as you claim, "interbred" with the local population in Ethiopia, that doesn´t prevent them from being jewish. As long as they converted their spouses, it doesn´t matter. Judaism isn´t depending on the colour of your skin. (Besides, there are Jews from Europe, Russia, America who are blond or redhaired. That doesn´t look very Mideastern. Try to guess why.)
