Until there is a statement about why Ms Livni passed this opportunity to play a less belligerent role in ME afairs, it might be wise to hold judgment.
But on the face of it, she lost an important chance to show that Israel is at least listening to what other people are saying. Isn`t that the role of an FM? To listen and to put forward one`s case? Otherwise, she is leaving that job to editorialists at Al-Jazeera.
This incident also underlines the lack of initiatives on the part of the current Israeli government, which is very much in a reactive rather than an active mode. |
