| Through the months I`ve spent here on Haaretz getting to know more about the mindset of Israelis, I`ve learned that there is a certain "gruffness" that could be translated into "arrogance" throughout most of the foreign policy decisions. Livni is making a big mistake by refusing to go to Qatar. What better time to try a hand at diplomacy and peaceful negotiations? High-handed rebuffs like this will only reinforce the Arabs` view of Israel as a rogue state that does what it wants. It seems almost petulant that she refuses to be in the same room with Hamas. It`s counterproductive, at best. Why not attend and show the world the unruffled feathers of Israel, instead of cementing the view that Israel is jarred at the mere sight of Hamas? |
