Once upon a time, high literature brimmed with the beautiful idea of how a lovely word could produce a beautiful deed. Thomas Mann, in Lotte in Weimar, has this form: "Ein reines Wort erreget schöne Taten`.
The Nazis transformed this: the Fuehrer`s words were to be transmuted into acts, without the mediation of the listener`s conscience. That this degradation should now come forth in a Jewish talkback to justify genocide against a race of `sub-human` animals tells me that the Holocaust taught at least you, not nothing, but only this demonic commandment, `do unto -Arabs` as Germans did unto our fathers and mothers.
I know the remonstrance is futile. Shame is not something one associates with the average temper of posters in these talkbacks. |
