| Bradely has certainly "bought the farm" on this one. He gave his list of reasons for wearing the veil, included a few religious reasons and forgot the political. I am worrying about Bradley as of late. First of all no "liberal" should ever accept the cultural chauvanism that forces a woman to wear the veil while men do not have to. I wonder how Brad would feel if all the men at Haaretz showed up one morning with their faces and bodies draped in cloth. He would find it difficult to find Amatziya. Would he accept this. What if Shocken decided that Bradley had to wear a veil, would he put up a fuss? Many, many if not most Moslem women in the west choose to wear the veil as a statement. Like the French philospher Levy, whose daughter chose to wear the veil as a symbol of political protest. There is definitely the political and cultural factors in which Moslem women wear the veil to seperate themselves from their adopted societies. |
