Left-wing Brits seem to have adopted a French-style militant secularism, wholly at odds with the traditional British muddled tolerance. One can`t help thinking: "this year the Moslems, next year the ...you know who."
Of course, the Moslems don`t help themselves. A minority are committed to the rapid imposition of Sharia law on everything that moves, are sympathetuic to terrorism and are totally dismissive of the free societies in which they are fortunate to live. And the sane, decent majority doesn`t go out of its way to distance itself from the extremists. Even so, the level of intolerance faced by Moslems seems overwhelming.
As a Jew, with an underestanding of what it`s like to be a member of a hated minority,one`s heart goes out to them, even if they aren`t likely to return the compliment |
