The term `righteous gentile` was applied to non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust. In the context of `today` in the U.S. - the term seems ridiculous. But during WW-II the Nazis murdered most of European Jewry. While history discusses the ingrained antisemitism that facilitated the holocaust - there were countless Christians who put their (and their familie`s) lives on the line to save Jews. The term righteous gentile was coined to honor these people. |
