The status of the Golan Heights is one thing... returning the Heights to Syria would not, by itself, destroy the state of Israel (although it might weaken Israel`s strategic position).
But the "right of return" of Palestinians to Israel is a radically different proposition, and one which would destroy Israel as an independent Jewish state.
Syria has absolutely no place to demand that Israel demographically commit suicide, no more than any third party nation or NGO has the right to ask Palestinians to forego their own national aspirations.
This is the essence of the intractability of negotiations between Israel and its enemies. While no one today seriously considers asking Palestinians to abandon their dreams of nationhood, it is now common for so-called anti-Zionist "human rights activists" to demand that Israel, as a nation, dies in the process.
