| Indeed, Nassrallah/Hezbollah have won this war. The huge/painful costs that Yoel Marcus has itimised go so far as to evidence only the great cost that was willingly paid, not the results. The victory was that for a start "No more submission to dictation" was made most compellingly. Israel cannot any longer dictate and bully with impunity. Incidentally, wasn`t that same belief held by and drove the founding fathers of Israel? Nassrallah has brought about a new era of reckoning; no one will suffer anymore without inflicting (increasingly) similar fate on the other side. It is now the time for both sides to apply a more mutually humane and just dealings, or else future encounters will, I am afraid, be far more telling. Nassrallah has succeeded indeed in establishing that Isareli might alone is NOT and will no more be the only answer - that others too have existential and patriotic considerations as well, and are fast learning. All futile macho tack must now be restrained most effectively. |
