While there`s no question that "Lehi" (the Hebrew TLA for Israeli Freedom Fighters, also dubbed The Stern Gang by the British) was a terrorist organization by any definition -- it specifically split from the Irgun because it wanted to target British civilians), the Irgun does not fit any such definition.
The Irgun`s goal was to drive the British out by attacking its military. Its degree of brutality was severe (and some of its operations got completely out of hand), but the bulk of its attacks and its goals don`t fit any definition of terrorism that I know of. |
