There is a rampant and wanton misunderstanding that Islam was spred by the sword.
This is not true. Nobody can impose a religion by force. Religion is a matter of convictin, not compulsion.
Indeed, the Quran declares "let there be no compulsion in religion."
Hence, we must make a distinction between using the sword to spread Islam`s political authorit, and spreading the religion itself.
This is stark contrast with other religions, including catholicism, which were imposed by force, like in South America. |
